Defensive Fortress: Grimace Anchors Boston’s Association-Best 100.2 Defensive Rating
The 450-pound center leads the BBL with 17.4 rebounds and 4.5 blocked shots inside The Purple Garden.
BOSTON — Opposing guards venturing into the paint at The Purple Garden are learning a harsh lesson: Boston’s interior rim protection is unlike anything else in modern basketball. Anchored by 7’8” center Grimace, the Boston Grimaces boast an association-leading 100.2 defensive rating through Week 6.
Grimace leads the entire league with 17.4 rebounds per contest, pairing his dominant rebounding with 4.5 blocks. In Tuesday’s grind-it-out 88-84 defensive clash against the Ohio Sigmas, Boston allowed just 34 points in the paint.
“You don’t challenge Grimace at the summit,” Boston head coach Ronald McDonald-rot said postgame. “He controls defensive airspace, and our wings can pressure full-court knowing the rim is completely locked down.”
"Nothing gets through the purple paint without paying the toll. We take pride in physical, disciplined half-court defense."
