Front Office & Scouting Notebook: How Denver Smurf Cats and Vegas V-Bucks Are Building Around Shailushai (Smurf Cat) and Fortnite Jonesy
Inside the roster construction, lineup analytics, and future draft asset strategy shaping the 2029 BBL Summer League.
NEW YORK — As the Denver Smurf Cats prepare to face the Vegas V-Bucks at The Battle Bus Pavilion (7:00 PM EST, BBL TV / ESPN), BBL front-office executives point to both franchises as models of modern roster construction during the 2029 BBL Summer League.
In Denver, the combination of Shailushai (Smurf Cat) (23.4 PPG, 50.8% FG) and Strawberry Elephant has produced elite half-court efficiency, while Vegas V-Bucks continue to build around Fortnite Jonesy (23.5 PPG, 6.8 RPG) while maintaining draft flexibility for upcoming selection classes.
“Every matchup between DEN and LV serves as a measuring stick for both front offices,” a BBL scouting director observed. “The talent level on the floor tonight reflects years of smart drafting and player development.”
"Our front office and coaching staff have put together a special locker room in Las Vegas. Now it’s on us to execute every night."
